General Information

Mumbai University Library is one of the oldest university libraries in India. The Mumbai University was established in 1857 and the Library became operational in 1880.

The library operates from two units – one at Vidyanagari and the other at Fort Campus.

Jawaharlal Nehru Library (JNL) at Vidyanagari is built on modern architectural principles of modular construction. The collection here is divided into social sciences; pure and applied sciences and humanities. Separate stacking and reading rooms for these collections facilitate easy access. The library is open to researchers and teachers.

The Rajabai Tower Library (Fort Campus) extends access to all including undergraduate students.

Collection & Resources

The library at present operates from both the units i.e. from Fort Campus and from Vidyanagari Campus. The Mumbai University Library (Both Units) comprises a collection of the following :

  • Books : 6, 99,321
  • Theses & dissertation : 20,000
  • Periodicals : 12,000
  • Manuscripts : 15,000
  • Microforms : 2,000
