Mumbai - A Research Hub

Mumbai’s reputation of being the ‘research hub’ of India is due to the presence of several research institutes of national and international standard to name a few are Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Cancer Research Institute and so on.
The research agenda of the Institute is guided by policy concerns, by individual members' research interests and by projects from national and international sponsors. The output of such research is distributed as publications in the form of discussion papers, project reports, books, monographs and reprints of journal articles. Doctoral Programme:
 
Most Institutes offer a two to five-year doctoral programme in any subjects, to students having consistently good academic record, with first or high second class Master Degree. All applicants must have Master degree as the same subject at the graduation level and post graduation level. Candidates who have cleared either the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or the Joint CSIR UGC – JRF (NET) examination are eligible for PhD programs at University of Mumbai.
Research Scholars are paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 8000 to 25,000/-, which is raised after appropriate academic evaluation at the end of two years. In addition, other grants are also included after a research scholar is registered for a Ph. D. degree. Hostel accommodation close to the Institute is also offered.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

Most Institutes offer Post-Doctoral Fellowship to research scholars who have obtained a Ph. D. degree in any of the research areas being pursued at any reputed institute.
