The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) or IIT Bombay as it is popularly called, established in 1958 is second Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in India. The IIT Bombay is autonomous university and hence free to conduct its own programs and award degrees. The IIT Bombay is ‘institute of national importance’ declared by parliament of India and established under IIT Act and hence responsible for conduction of R & D work for excellence in sciences and technologies and various other areas. The IIT Bombay is mentor to newly formed IIT Gandhinagar.

The IIT Bombay offers under graduate programs; bachelor’s, integrated, dual degree etc in engineering, sciences and technologies and awards degrees like Bachelor of Technology, Master in Technology etc. At postgraduate level the institute offers masters degree programs in engineering, management, pure sciences and humanities.
